Simultaneous curvature correction at the time of the penile fracture repair: surgical and functional outcomes

Abstract: Purpose: After a penile fracture (PF), an early surgical exploration and defect closure of the lesions are recommended to prevent long-term complications. However, postoperative unsatisfactory penile curvatures are frequent in the literature. In this study, we wished to present surgical outcomes of PF after surgical repair approach with an early intraoperative curvature correction and update our series with postoperative follow-up. Patients and methods: An institutional retro… Show more

“…Furthermore, due to the high incidence of postoperative penile curvatures, Dell'Atti et al analysed the importance of intraoperative curvature correction in patients who presented with a cavernous body deviation. This could confer better quality of life and postoperative outcomes with the main disadvantage of a subjective loss of penile length [ 14 ].…”

“…After "defatting", BMG was apposite to cover the albuginea defect with the submucosa surface in contact with the cavernous tissue in order to obtain a quick blood supply and sutured with a 3/0 adsorbable running sutures (Maxon TM ) in each side ( Figure 1). Artificial erection was repeated to evaluate the curvature and deformity correction, defining the need of complementary tunica albuginea plications (10). Buck' s fascia was accurately closed with interrupted adsorbable suture, especially in correspondence with the patch site to avoid patch enlargement.…”

“…In the first 50 days we had to intervene on two traumas of the genital tract that happened due to working activities. We listed criteria to plan andrological surgery in agreement with our experience, the Covid Task Force Unit in our hospital and published Guidelines on urological surgery (17)(18)(19)(20)(21). The andrological surgical activity included two orchiectomies for testicular cancer, one penile amputation with inguinal and ipsilateral pelvic lymph node dissection for penile cancer (Figure 4) and one surgery for severe gangrenous necrotizing fasciitis of the genitals in a 58-year male with diabetes, HIV and drugs addiction.…”
