“…The post-LTx survival rates of our cohort, 77% at 1 yr, 71% at 2 yrs and 65% at 4 yrs, are in accordance with previous studies in COPD patients [2,[21][22][23]. The short waiting time (6¡4 months) and the absence of death while on the waiting list in our cohort may differ from other transplantation centres.…”

“…4,[9][10][11][12] This study is one of the largest series of patients with cystic fibrosis who have undergone lung transplantation. The relatively large patient numbers and the strict criteria used for DIOS diagnosis, with both clinical and radiologic evidence of ileal obstruction required, suggests that the 10% incidence of DIOS in our study is likely to be an accurate estimate of the risk of developing DIOS after lung transplantation.…”

“…The main drawback of SLT is the potential occurrence of complications --infection, hemoptysis, pneumothorax and hyperinflation --affecting the native lung. 13,14 Both SLT and BLT yield a similar benefit in terms of exercise capacity, 15,16 but a survival advantage of BLT over SLT has recently been suggested by results of several studies, both from single centers, 17,18 and from the ISHLT registry. 19 This survival advantage has probably been taken into account by many transplant physicians and might explain why many centers now favour the use of BLT for COPD.…”
