Lyapunov based stability analysis for metro lines

Abstract: In this work a direct method to measure the stability of metro system lines with respect to a previously constructed time schedule is presented. For this purpose we first model saturation effects using a real time discrete space state representation and then apply a Lyapunov-based stability analysis considering time delays of trains as disturbances. As a result we have been able to define a new set of indexes that relate time delays with the validity of the actual time schedule when falling inside a particular… Show more

“…The main advantages of their proposed approach were its ability to manage constraints and the solvability of the real-time optimization problem. Berbey et al [7] presented a Lyapunov-based stability analysis method for a metro traffic system modeled using the definition of the departure time deviation from the nominal schedule. They defined a new stability index to evaluate the effect of saturation on metro lines and predict the need for rescheduling.…”

“…The study of the perturbations for metro line systems are important because they cause that even small perturbations propagate very quickly through the railway network, causing more delayed trains [1]- [4] [5], [6] [7] and it cause low quality of service for passengers waiting on railway platforms. According to Martínez et al, [8] abnormally long dwelling times occur on subway lines due, in some cases, to breakdowns.…”

“…However, for the IC station, that has a demand level of type H-M-L, we observe a greater change in the dwelling time for track 1 and for track 2. It is noteworthy that the platform of the SM station presents a high level of saturation [29][30][31][32]. Indeed, all its cars are crowed and in consequence not all waiting passengers can aboard the train.…”
