Magnetic angle evolution in accreting neutron stars
Anton Biryukov,
Pavel Abolmasov
Abstract:The rotation of a magnetised accreting neutron star (NS) in a binary system is described by its spin period and two angles: spin inclination πΌ with respect to the orbital momentum and magnetic angle π between the spin and the magnetic moment. Magnetospheric accretion spins the NS up and adjusts its rotation axis, decreasing πΌ to nearly perfect alignment. Its effect upon the magnetic angle is more subtle and relatively unstudied. In this work, we model the magnetic angle evolution of a rigid spherical accret… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citationsβcitations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
