Abstract:We have performed magnetic measurements on the single crystal TmTe at extremely high pressure using a novel diamond anvil cell. Between 2 K and 80 K, the magnetic susceptibility traces are unchanged for pressures up to 2.6 GPa. At 3.6 GPa, a paramagnet-ferromagnet transition appeared at T C = 12.2 K, but disappears above 6.1 GPa. We postulate that the origin of ferromagnetic phase is related to the pressure induced valence change of Tm.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
