Magnetic Susceptibility and Electronic Structure of CoSi and CoGe Alloys at High Temperatures

Abstract: The magnetic susceptibility of Co-Xi and Co-Ge alloys is investigated by the Faraday method with the help of the pendulum scale in the temperature range 900 to 1800 "C. It is shown that the Curie-Weiss law is fulfilled both for solid and liquid alloys with Xi (Ge) concentrations up to 30 at?;. For these alloys the number of noncoupled spins per Co atom and the paramagnetic Curie temperature are calculated after determination of the temperature-independent contribution to the magnetic susceptibility. Considerin… Show more

“…It suggests that the Co ions are in the stable magnetic state. The values of v for liquid Co 1Àc Si c with 0.1 6 c 6 0.6 are in good agreement with those for the corresponding alloys reported by Dovgopol et al [10]. For liquid Co, however, their value of 62.3 · 10 À4 emu/mol reported at 1500°C is considerably larger than that of 34.4 · 10 À4 emu/mol obtained in this work.…”
