“…A qualitative agreement of observed effective magnetic moments at ambient temperature and the expected values, in addition to the significant reduction of magnetic moment at low temperature, suggest that the Yb ions enter the Kramers doublet ground state at low temperature [21,22,24]. Considering J ef f = 1 2 in Ba 3 Yb(BO 3 ) 3 [17], the obtained g ab 2.19 and g c 3.38 values suggest a significant anisotropy at low temperature range.…”

“…These results contribute to the rapidly growing set of lanthanide–alkaline earth borates with low-dimensional structures and novel magnetic properties, such as the Sr 6 Ln Fe(BO 3 ) 6 , Ba 3 Ln (BO 3 ) 3 , and A Ba Ln (BO 3 ) 2 ( A = Na + , K + , Rb + ) structural families. 31 , 38 , 48 51 Furthermore, the Ca 4 Ln O(BO 3 ) 3 structure type is compositionally flexible, which should allow for the realization of novel low-dimensional magnetic lattices through chemical substitution.…”

“…It must also be noted that the effective exchange constants J and J ⊥ in the NaYbCh 2 materials are comparatively large for an Yb 3+ triangular lattice. In YbMgGaO 4 , NaBaYb(BO 3 ) 2 and Rb 3 Yb(PO 4 ) 2 the lowtemperature Curie-Weiss temperatures and thus the exchange constants are more than one order of magnitude smaller compared to the NaYbCh 2 system [53,[79][80][81]. In this sense, these other systems with small exchange couplings can be regarded as nearly-single-ion systems (without significant exchange coupling between the ions).…”
