Major Ozonated Autohemotherapy in Chronic Limb Ischemia with Ulcerations

Abstract: This paper reports the beneficial effects of ozone autohemotherapy (OHT) in 2 patients afflicted with painful, intractable leg ulcers. One patient had diabetes mellitus type II (DM), the other had vasculitis. Both patients had seen multiple specialists, including a dermatologist, an internist, and a vascular surgeon, but their clinical course continued to worsen. When the pain became intolerable, the patients came to our pain clinic. Chemical lumbar sympathectomy as well as epidural blockade with bupivacaine a… Show more

“…Despite the considerable development of O 3 AHT (21)(22)(23)(24)(25), it has never been completely convincing as a therapy due to its modest results, the difficulty of demonstrating the expected hematochemical changes in circulating blood and the impossibility of demonstrating a mechanism of action. In our opinion, these limits of O 3 AHT may be due to the fact that only small volumes of blood (200-300 ml/week) can be treated.…”

“…It was used in several empirical studies as a therapeutic agent for chronic wounds (like trophic and ischemic ulcers and diabetic wounds, etc.) [19]. The use of ozone was also examined in viral-fungal and bacterial infections, ocular, ischemic, orthopedic, hematological, neurodegenerative, pulmonary, renal and dermatological diseases; and in age-dependent macular degeneration [20].…”

“…In major auto-haemotherapy, a larger quantity of blood, such as 50-250 milliliters, is removed and re-introduced via a vein over a time period of up to 30 minutes, using a standard drip infusion rate or a steady rate. This treatment may be repeated several times per week for a number of weeks [4].…”
