ABSTRAKParasit plasmodium merupakan makhluk protozoa bersel satu yang menjadi penyebab penyakit malaria. Plasmodium ini dibawa melalui gigitan nyamuk anopheles betina. Dalam World Malaria Report 2015 menyatakan bahwa malaria telah menyerang sedikit 106 negara di dunia. Di Indonesia sendiri, Papua, NTT dan Maluku merupakan wilayah dengan kasus positif malaria tertinggi. Malaria telah menjadi masalah yang serius, sehingga keberadaan sistem diagnosa otomatis yang cepat dan handal sangat diperlukan untuk proses perlambatan penyeberan dan pembasmian epidemi. Dalam penelitian ini akan dirancang sistem yang mampu mendeteksi parasit malaria pada citra mikroskopis darah menggunakan arsitekur Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) sederhana. Hasil pengujian menunjukkan bahwa metode yang diusulkan memberikan presisi dan recall sebesar 0,98 dan f1-score sebesar 0,96 serta akurasi 95,83%.Kata kunci: parasit, malaria, convolutional neural network, citra mikroskopis ABSTRACTPlasmodium parasites are single-celled protozoan creatures that cause malaria. Plasmodium is carried through the bite of a female Anopheles mosquito. The World Malaria Report 2015 states that malaria has attacked at least 106 countries in the world. In Indonesia itself, Papua, NTT and Maluku are the regions with the highest positive cases of malaria. Malaria has become a serious problem, so the existence of a fast and reliable automatic diagnosis system is indispensable for the process of slowing down the spread and eliminating the epidemic. In this study, a system capable of detecting malaria parasites in microscopic images of blood will be designed using a simple Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) architecture. Background and Objectives: Medicinal plants constitute the major source of malaria treatment in a different region of Burkina Faso, the present study was carried out to determine the potentially anti-malaria plants of the region of Bobo Dioulasso and to assess preliminary investigations on the possible pharmacological applications others than anti-malaria properties assessed by traditional health practitioners. Materials and Methods: Open-ended and structured interviews were used during the ethnobotanical survey. Total phenolics and flavonoids content were estimated using spectrophotometric methods. Antioxidant potential was evaluated using anti-radical and reduction methods while the crystal violet staining technique was used for the determination of extracts cytotoxicity on 22RV1 prostate cancer cells. Results: Ethnobotanical survey highlighted five plants from different families as the most used against malaria. Their extracts have shown a significant potential for trapping radicals by the 2,2'-azino-bis (3-éthylbenzothiazoline-6-sulphonique acid) (ABTS●+) method. The methanolic extract of T. macroptera has the highest content of phenolic and flavonoids compounds with respectively 59.94±0.15 mg EAG/100 mg of extract and 5.35±0.05 EQ/100 mg of extract. Methanolic extracts concentration of different plants tested that inhibit 50% of the proliferation of cancer cells 22RV1 proliferation were ranged between 48.34 to 359.1 μg/mL. E. africana was the most active 48.34 μg/mL on tested cell strain. Conclusion: Phytochemical composition and antioxidant potential may justify the use of tested plants in the treatment of malaria. Antiradical potential and reduction capacities of tested samples may explain their toxicity 22RV1 prostate cancer cells.

Introduction: Rational use of drugs against most common and life‑threatening tropical diseases such as malaria remains a huge challenge, particularly in sub-Saharan African region. The correct use of antimalarial drugs is the key not only to therapeutic success but also to deterring the spread of drug resistance malaria. Aims: To assess the physicians’ compliance with the national anti’-malaria treatment guidelines among Under five (U-5) years children in secondary health facilities in Sokoto metropolis. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study conducted as an exit interview among 292 mothers/caregivers of febrile U-5 children with antimalarial prescription, that presented to the out-patient clinics of the selected secondary health facilities in Sokoto metropolis. Simple random sampling technique using balloting option was used to select 2 secondary Health facilities in the metropolis, Proportionate allocation was done to allocate study subjects to the selected Health facilities based on average weekly outpatient attendance. The data was collected using an interviewer-administered questionnaire. Descriptive statistics was used to analysed data using IBM SPSS version 22. Results: Of the 292 children, only 115(39.4%) had malaria parasite test requested by the physician, out of which 63(54.8) had microscopy, while 52(45.2) of the children had malaria Rapid Diagnostic Test (mRDT). One hundred and eighty-five (65.1%) of the children were treated presumptively with anti-malarial drugs. Artemisinin based Combination Therapy (ACT) was prescribed in 221(77.8%) of the under-fives. The commonest prescribed ACT was Artemether-Lumefantrine in 113(77.4%) of the children. Majority 263(92.6%) of the prescriptions were in brand names. Recommendation: The physicians’ compliance with national malaria treatment guidelines using the proportion of U-5 children was suboptimal. There was over prescription of anti-malarial drugs, as majority of the patients treated for malaria had no laboratory evidence for the treatment. However, compliance with the use of ACT was good. This study shows also suboptimal compliance with WHO prescribing indicators with respect to prescription in generic names. Regular training of the health care providers by the government is recommended to improve adherence to antimalarial treatment guideline.
