Based on the analysis and interpretation of maps, remote sensing data published in the literature, and environmental reconnaissance, this article discusses environmental transformations in the Wojkowice area in southern Poland (up to the year 2020). A comprehensive analysis was carried out concerning spatial development, mining activity, hydrogeological conditions and the biotic environment. The current state of the hydrogeological conditions was also characterized. Mining activity in the vicinity of the studied town caused significant changes in its relief, which contributed to its area dropping by about 5 m. In fact, these terrain forms are overgrown by various forms of vegetation that colonized these areas both naturally and as a result of forest reclamation. The contemporary vegetation of Wojkowice differs from the potential natural vegetation, which is an indicator of the complete anthropogenization of the natural environment. Over 100 years of industrial activity in Wojkowice has also contributed to a strong transformation of the groundwater. There has been a quantitative depletion of usable groundwater in the Triassic and Carboniferous formations. With inflows to the ore mines of up to 17 m3/min, the groundwater table has dropped by more than 60 m. The aquifer of Muschelkalk has been practically drained. At present, wells extract the waters from the Röth aquifer. There has been a major transformation of groundwater chemistry. The waters of the Triassic carbonate complex are anthropogenically transformated and are characterized by increased mineralization, multi-ionic types and usually with a quality class III and IV, and, therefore, they require some treatment.

Abstract-On May 24, 2016, in Husnicioara commune (Mehedinţi county) the county road 607A (Cerneţi-Prunişor), communal road 17A (which connects to Oprăneşti village) and the electricity transport network were affected by landslides. Because of the landslide and the associated processes there were damaged both roads, embankments and all other previously built elements for the slope's stabilization, taking off the water from rainfall, combat and mitigate erosion (cassettes, supporting walls, concrete ditches, tailboards etc.). The damage to the road network consisted in the destruction of some sectors from county road 607A on a length of 443 m and communal road 17A on a length of 131 m. The terrain reconfiguration which occurred because of the horizontal and vertical movements, locally destroyed the electricity transport network by collapse the supporting pillars of electric cables. Field measurements carried out from 2 to 16 June 2016 with GPS South S-82T were processed using GIS techniques and obtaining the numerical model of the landslide. After corroborating field analysis with the thematic maps resulted from the overlapping of the layers specific to the relief, lithology, land use/cover, it was established that the whole sectors affected by the landslide (DJ 607A and DC 17A) were destroyed, and that is impossible to restore them on the current emplacement. Taking into account the physical, geographical and territorial distribution of human settlements, for the reopening of DJ 607A there were identified and proposed as solutions two different routes with low risk and vulnerability to landslides.

This research study presents the spatio-temporal distribution of the main agricultural crops in Romania using a modern digitalisation technique, namely interactive GIS mapping. Interactive GIS mapping includes various features specific to the development of sustainable Romanian agriculture, including the arable area of Romania, information on the area (hectares) cultivated with corn, wheat, sunflower, and rape during the 1990–2018 period, the degree of mechanisation, the number of tractors, and information regarding the landforms, a natural factor in relation to cultivated surfaces. Agricultural land should be properly used based on its ability to meet the demands of consumers of traditional Romanian products with an ecological label, but also the needs of the local population, and, at the same time, to ensure the sustainability of the natural environment through the practice of ecological agriculture. The purpose of this research is to provide an overview of the current state of the main agricultural crops in Romania. From a theoretical but also practical point of view, this research presents, for the first time, a retrospective analysis of each county in Romania in terms of the geospatial distribution of major agricultural crops using interactive GIS mapping. Geospatial data were processed in ArcGIS Geographic Information System 10.7.2. The results of this study show that the most extensive cereal areas at the county level in Romania are corn and wheat. The largest areas cultivated with corn and wheat in 2018 were recorded in the Western Plain, the Romanian Plain, and the Moldavian Plateau. For wheat, increases were also recorded in the Dobrogea Plateau. The intensification of labour productivity and the promotion of the sustainability of the natural environment in Romania is presented through the main indicator (the number of tractors) of the degree of mechanisation of agriculture. The higher values of this indicator are in the counties of Bihor, Timiș, and Maramureș. Limitations in Romania’s agricultural data present substantial challenges to the sector’s development and sustainability. Addressing these challenges is essential for informed decision making, policy formulation, and effective resource allocation.
