Manganese, technetium and rhenium

Abstract

A review of the literature presented during 2012 on manganese, technetium and rhenium chemistry is made in this chapter. The synthesis of novel compounds, complexes and clusters of these metals is reviewed and new observations and inferences are reported. Research highlights for each of the metals during the year are also given. HighlightsAn unusual Mn III 6 Mn II exchange-coupled core and half-integer spin has been observed in a new [Mn 7 ] cluster complex. 30 Using a range of analytical techniques and computational calculations, the first evidence is presented for the formation of technetium oxosulphide complexes. 69 Electron paramagnetic resonance studies have been used to provide direct evidence for the presence of one metal-based unpaired electron in rare rhenium complexes with paddlewheel structures and Re 2 7+ cores.
