Many-wavelength picosecond Raman Stokes and anti-Stokes comb lasing of cubic SrF2single crystal in the visible and near-IR

Abstract: Abstract:We report on the first observation of stimulated Raman scattering (SRS) in cubic SrF2. All recorded high-order Stokes and anti-Stokes lasing sidebands in the visible and near-IR (up to the 28th order) are identified to the single SRS-promoting vibration mode of the crystal with ω ≈ 282 cm −1 . We believe that the recorded multi-wavelength cascaded χ (3) -lasing comb in SrF 2 helps to approach to an experimental solution of the tempting possibility for synthesis of a new type of femtosecond waveforms.S… Show more

“…[1,7]). Furthermore, the study of a large variety of (χ (2) + χ (3) )-active crystals supports the achievement of deeper insight into the nature of multistage cascading nonlinear photon-phonon interactions in such crystals, as well as into the relation between these nonlinear-laser effects and the crystal structure and optical crystal properties, which are current fundamental tasks.…”

“…For instance, observed multi-wavelength equidistant coherent Stokes and anti-Stokes lasing components ("lasing combs"), that cover very wide spectral ranges in the UV, visible and near IR (in several cases up to two octaves, see, e.g., SrF 2 [2], CVD-diamond [3], BaF 2 [4], NH 4 H 2 PO 4 (ADP) and ND 4 D 2 PO 4 (DADP) [5], α-quartz [6]), open up new promising possibilities for the synthesis of different ultra-short (femtosecond) waveforms (pulses). χ (3) -and (χ (2) + χ (3) )-active crystals are also very attrac- Table 1 Overview of known melilite-type crystals with general formula M [8] 2 T(1) [4] T(2) [4] 2 O7, classified with respect to ordering of cations (and anions) on the respective sites (mixed crystals are not included). “…As in the case of CaF 2 [2] and SrF 2 [12] crystals, roomtemperature Raman induced Stokes and anti-Stokes generation investigations of BaF 2 were performed in singlepass (cavity-free) excitation scheme using an experimental setup with a home-made Xe-flashlamp-pumped Table 1) [36]. b) A value of 282K is reported by [34].…”

“…Recently [2,12], nonlinear-laser properties of CaF 2 and SrF 2 single crystals, in particular very broad Stokes and anti-Stokes comb generation, were discovered which are very attractive for synthesis of new type of femtosecond waveforms. In continuation to [2,12] [22]).…”
