MASHA separator on the heavy ion beam for determining masses and nuclear physical properties of isotopes of heavy and superheavy elements

Abstract: The MASHA mass spectrometer designed for identifying superheavy elements by their masses is described. The separation efficiency has been measured in the autonomous mode using four calibrated leak ages of noble gases. The total separation efficiency of the mass spectrometer with a hot catcher and an ion source based on the electron cyclotron resonance has been determined using the 40 Ar beam. Test experiments have been carried out, in which α active Hg isotopes produced in complete fusion reaction 40 Ar + 144 … Show more

“…At this time, there is no clear understanding of origin of the short chains. Apparently, only a direct measurement of the mass number of one of the isotopes in the short chain will dispel doubts, e. g., using the devices presented at [16,33]. As can be seen in Fig.…”

“…The frontal detector part covers a 240×35 mm area of the focal plane and consists of 192 strips with a pitch of 1.25 mm. In the case of radon isotopes a set of peaks (masses) with the step of 15 strips is seen [1][2][3]. When the MASHA + Timepix setup is used in the experiment, one part of multi-strip detector is replaced with Timepix detector, so it is quite easy to set roughly the given mass on Timepix sensor.…”
