Materials Formed by Combining Inorganic Glasses and Metal‐Organic Frameworks

Abstract: Here, we propose the combination of glassy or crystalline metal‐organic frameworks (MOFs) with inorganic glasses to create novel hybrid composites and blends. The motivation behind this new composite approach is to improve the processability issues and mechanical performance of MOFs, whilst maintaining their ubiquitous properties. Herein, the precepts of successful composite formation and pairing of MOF and glass MOFs with inorganic glasses are presented. Focus is also given to the synthetic routes to such mate… Show more

“…These additional peaks are coincident with the Na•••N and Zn•••O•••P atomic distances compared to the literature (Fig. S74), further supporting the 15 N and 67 Zn MAS NMR data postulating these interactions. Features at 1.36 and 1.97 Å might be associated with ZIF-8 correlations (C•••C and C•••N, and Zn•••N).…”

“…In particular, this work focuses on very sensitive spin 1/2 nuclei (high natural abundance, high Larmor frequency) for each of the individual components of the MOF-CIGC components, namely 1 H and 31 P from the ZIF-8 and IG glasses, respectively. NMR spectra of other active nuclei ( 13 C, 15 N, both spin ½; 23 Na quadrupolar nucleus with spin 3/2; and 67 Zn spin 5/2) were also obtained to identify potential Zn…”
