Aims To evaluate plasma kisspeptin‐10 (KP‐10) as a marker for preeclampsia and assess its relation to altered reproductive hormones in preeclamptic pregnant women. Methods First time pregnant women (n = 100) at 20 weeks of gestation participated in this study and divided into preeclamptics (n = 60) and normotensives (n = 40). KP‐10, luteinizing hormone (LH), follicle stimulating hormone (FSH), beta‐human chorionic gonadotropin (β‐hCG), estradiol (E2) and progesterone were evaluated during 2nd and 3rd trimesters of pregnancy for all women. Results Kisspeptin‐10 levels were reduced in preeclampsia (PE) women compared with normotensive pregnancies. In the 2nd trimester, area under receiver–operator characteristic (ROC) curve was 0.662, positive and negative predictive values were 32.8 and 94.6, and test sensitivity and specificity were 55% and 87.5%, respectively. In the 3rd trimester, area under ROC curve was 0.747 positive and negative predictive values were 22.2 and 97.3, and test sensitivity and specificity were 83.3% and 67.5%, respectively. In PE patients, plasma KP‐10 demonstrated an inverse correlation with E2 (during the 2nd trimester), LH and FSH (during the 3rd trimester), and positively correlated with β‐hCG (during the 3rd trimester). Conclusion This study showed significantly reduced plasma KP‐10 levels in PE women. This suggests that KP‐10 may play an important role in the pathophysiology of PE. Therefore, combined with previous studies, to diagnose the PE, testing for maternal KP‐10 plasma levels may be useful as an effective screening, but because of low positive predictive value and inadequate test sensitivity, screening cannot be recommended. Furthermore, KP‐10 in PE patients demonstrated significant positive correlation with β‐hCG.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), hyperemesis gravidarum occurs throughout the world, including the countries of the Americas with varying incidence rates ranging from 0.5-2%, 0.3% in Sweden, 0.5% in California, 0.8% in Canada, 10.8% in China, 0.9% in Norway, 2.2% in Pakistan and 1.9% in Turkey. Meanwhile, the incidence of hyperemesis gravidarum in Indonesia ranges from 1-3% of all pregnancies. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of giving warm ginger to the frequency of Emesis gravidarum in first trimester pregnant women. The type of research used was quantitative research with Pre-Experimental research design using One Group Pretest-Posttest design. The population in this study were all first trimester pregnant women who experienced emesis gravidarum who had their pregnancy checked at BPM Happy Purnama. Sampling in this study used a total sampling technique with a sample of 16 people. Data collection was obtained by using the Pregnancy Unique Quantification of Emesis questionnaire. The statistical results of the study obtained a p-value of 0.002, which means it is smaller than the significant value, which is <0.05, so it can be concluded that giving warm ginger is effective in reducing the frequency of emesis gravidarum. This study is also expected to be an alternative non-pharmacological treatment of emesis gravidarum in first trimester pregnant women.

Antenatal dengue infection presents substantial risks to maternal, fetal, and neonatal health, particularly in dengue-endemic regions such as Sri Lanka. This retrospective cross-sectional study with a follow up aimed to investigate the adverse outcomes of antenatal dengue infection and identify predictive parameters associated with maternal, fetal, and neonatal complications. A total of 115 pregnant women with laboratory-confirmed dengue infection admitted to two tertiary referral hospitals in Sri Lanka were followed from admission until delivery and discharge. Data on clinical and laboratory outcome variables were collected and analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Results revealed a seasonal pattern of dengue infections, with the majority occurring between April and July. Dengue fever (DF) accounted for the majority of cases, followed by dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) and dengue expanded syndrome (DES). Maternal adverse outcomes were observed in 27.8% of cases, with predictors including dengue category, trimester of infection, platelet count, and AST levels. Fetal adverse outcomes affected 8.1% of cases, while neonatal adverse outcomes occurred in 28.7% of live births, with transplacental transmission observed in 13.3% of cases. This study underscores the urgent need for early detection and management of antenatal dengue infection to mitigate adverse outcomes. Identifying predictors of adverse maternal outcomes, such as dengue category and trimester of infection, alongside vigilant monitoring of platelet and AST levels, is crucial for optimizing outcomes. Further research is warranted to develop robust prediction models and refine management strategies for this vulnerable population.
