“…Similarly, Schuermann et al (2019) found it to remain low until the pre-breeding period (4 th week after parturition). In human studies, generally, a negative correlation is found between serum omentin-1 levels and serum TG levels similar to our findings (Yan et al, 2011;Garces et al, 2015;Korany et al, 2018).…”

“…In the same study, omentin-1 levels, measured in women during the three trimesters (early, mid, and late pregnancy), were observed to be significantly lower in mid and late pregnancy compared to the levels in non-pregnant women. Similarly, in pregnant rats and women, omentin-1 levels were low by the end of pregnancy (Garces et al, 2015). On the contrary, in the present study conducted on cows, omentin-1 levels started to increase in the serum on the 14 th day before parturition and the level was found to be significantly high during parturition (Figure 1), decreasing again by the 14 th day after parturition.…”

“…Little has been reported around omentin, an adipokine with anti-inflammatory activity, in experimental models of developmental programming. Maternal circulating omentin profiles are similar between humans and rodents (Garces et al 2015). In clinical studies, preexisting maternal obesity associates with a reduction in expression of omentin-1 in placenta, adipose tissue and maternal plasma and alterations in omentin-1 in pregnancy were therefore proposed to play a role in the development of metabolic disorders in offspring in later life.…”

“…Serum omentin-1 is also significantly lower in gestational diabetes than that in pregnant women with normal glucose tolerance and is closely associated with gestational diabetes and probably participates in the occurrence and development of gestational diabetes [26]. Human and rat serum omentin-1 levels are lower in the late gestational period than those in nonpregnant women and virgin rats, and human serum omentin-1 level has an inverse relationship with the triglyceride level during pregnancy [27]. Leptin was increased in diabetic pregnant women [28].…”
