Abstract:This article summarises the history of the establishment of the first maternal special care (MSC) unit in Hong Kong. The authors highlight the use of obstetric early warning system, the levels of care for critically ill mothers, the equipment used in MSC, and the midwifery training in maternal critical care. The authors also present the statistics of MSC admissions at Prince of Wales Hospital from 2018 to 2020.
