The aim of this research is to examine cyber learning as an educational transformation in the digital era. The research method used by the researcher is a qualitative research method with a library study type of research. The results of this research show that the implications of integrating technology into education are very broad and include several aspects such as pedagogy, student involvement, institutional structure, and societal considerations. Although the results of the literature review recognize the transformative potential of cyber learning, strategic planning, ongoing research, and strong policy development are needed to navigate the complexity of educational paradigms in the digital era. As progress continues, a deep understanding of the diverse interactions between technology and education is critical so that the benefits of cyber learning can be fully utilized by students, educators and society.

Two isosteric series of 1,2,4-triazole and 1,3,4-thiadiazole derivatives were designed and synthesized in this work to be evaluated for their antiviral activity. Compounds 2-9 and 11-19 were synthesized and their antiviral activity was tested against herpes simplex virus type 1, HSV-1, using acyclovir, ACV, as a reference drug. In addition, molecular docking into the active site of HSV-1 thymidine kinase was performed to interpret the data obtained from biological testing, and all compounds were subjected to an in silico screening of their physicochemical properties to estimate their drug-likeness and safety. The results revealed that compound 7 was able to reduce the viral plaques by 50% at a dose of 80 μM, but interestingly, retained high selectivity compared to ACV (> 200 μM vs. 80 μM). The best effective and safe compound in this study, 7, was further tested for its combined effects with ACV on the anti-HSV-1 activity in the plaque reduction assay. Compound 7 proved to improve the selectivity of ACV and reduce its effective dose that produced 100% inhibition of viral plaques. The triazolopyrimidine 7 is suggested to be a promising candidate for further development as an antiherpetic agent. Molecular docking into the active site of HSV-1 thymidine kinase emphasized the superior interaction of compound 7.

Spread of TEM, VIM, SHV, and CTX-Mβ-Lactamases in Imipenem-Resistant Gram-Negative Bacilli Isolated from Egyptian Hospitals

Carbapenem-resistant Gram-negative bacilli resulting from β-lactamases have been reported to be an important cause of nosocomial infections and are a critical therapeutic problem worldwide. This study aimed to describe the prevalence of imipenem-resistant Gram-negative bacilli isolates and detection of bla VIM, bla TEM, bla SHV, bla CTX-M-1, and bla CTX-M-9 genes in these clinical isolates in Egyptian hospitals. The isolates were collected from various clinical samples, identified by conventional methods and confirmed by API 20E. Antibiotic susceptibility testing was determined by Kirby-Bauer technique and interpreted according to CLSI. Production of bla VIM, bla TEM, bla SHV, and bla CTX-M genes was done by polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Direct sequencing from PCR products was subsequently carried out to identify and confirm these β-lactamases genes. Out of 65 isolates, (46.1%) Escherichia coli, (26.2%) Klebsiella pneumoniae, and (10.7%) Pseudomonas aeruginosa were identified as the commonest Gram-negative bacilli. 33(50.8%) were imipenem-resistant isolates. 22 isolates (66.7%) carried bla VIM, 24(72.7%) had bla TEM, and 5(15%) showed bla SHV, while 12(36%), 6(18.2%), and 0(0.00%) harbored bla CTX-M-1, bla CTX-M-9, and bla CTX-M-8/25, respectively. There is a high occurrence of β-lactamase genes in clinical isolates and sequence analysis of amplified genes showed differences between multiple SNPs (single nucleotide polymorphism) sites in the same gene among local isolates in relation to published sequences.
