MATLAB Analysis of SP Test Results—An Unusual Parasympathetic Nervous System Activity in Low Back Leg Pain: A Case Report

Abstract: The Skorupska Protocol (SP) test is a new validated tool used to confirm nociplastic pain related to muscles based on a pathological autonomic nervous system (ANS) activity due to muscle nociceptive noxious stimulation analyzed automatically. Two types of amplified vasomotor response are defined as possible: vasodilatation and vasoconstriction. Until now, amplified vasodilatation among low back leg pain and/or sciatica subjects in response to the SP test was confirmed. This case report presents an unusual vaso… Show more

“…The common denominator in studies on the classification of athletes with disabilities is the role of the trunk in sports performance as it plays an important role in the generation and transmission of force during various sports activities. In fact, the motor behavior of the trunk can be easily assessed using EMG sensors evaluating muscle activity related to trunk stabilization [ 35 , 38 , 39 , 40 ].…”

“…In addition to that, in 2021, the IASP released clinical criteria for NcplP [ 10 ]. Other recently proposed methods of assessing NcplP are the Skorupska Protocol (SP) [ 4 , 58 ] and Nociplastic-based Fibromyalgia Features (NFF) [ 59 ]. The NFF criteria are focused on NcplP attributes and were reported to be helpful in the diagnosis of fibromyalgia [ 60 ].…”

“…The NFF criteria are focused on NcplP attributes and were reported to be helpful in the diagnosis of fibromyalgia [ 60 ]. Taking SP into account, it is a stress test during which an atypical vasomotor reaction may be observed with the use of an infrared thermal camera [ 58 ].…”

“…Te sympathetic activity depended on the referred pain presence was also demonstrated. Tis additionally confrms the CS involvement in TrPs development [9][10][11]. Te other theories postulate that trigger points are just nociceptive peripheral sensation, denying their clinical importance or even questioning their existence [12].…”
