Measurement of forward Z → e+e− production at s = 8 $$ \sqrt{s}=8 $$ TeV

Abstract: A measurement of the cross-section for Z-boson production in the forward region of pp collisions at 8 TeV centre-of-mass energy is presented. The measurement is based on a sample of Z → e + e − decays reconstructed using the LHCb detector, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.0 fb −1 . The acceptance is defined by the requirements 2.0 < η < 4.5 and p T > 20 GeV for the pseudorapidities and transverse momenta of the leptons. Their invariant mass is required to lie in the range 60-120 GeV. The cross-se… Show more

“…III B). More specifically, we include the D0 data on the lepton asymmetry from the W -boson decays rather than the actual W -boson asymmetry data, as well as the recent LHC DY data [66][67][68][69][70][71][72]. In order to test the impact of such differences, we perform a variant of our fit in which we drop all the W, Z-boson collider data, replacing them with the D0 W -asymmetry data [108].…”

“…The limitations of DIS data can be partially overcome with the addition of Drell-Yan, W ± , and Z production at Tevatron and the LHC [2,[64][65][66][67][68][69][70][71][72]. In particular, the data on W + and W − production allow a d/u separation independent from the deuterium data.…”

“…The LHCb collaboration measured the cross section in 18 bins of Z boson rapidity in the di-muon decay channel [38]. They also measured 17 bins of Z boson rapidity in the e + e − decay channel [39]. Therefore, for this exercise we consider the optimization of the CT14HERA2 PDFs for these 35 observables.…”

“…However, when Tevatron jet data are again included then we get an increase to α S (M 2 Z ) = 0.1173. We also consider the effect of adding in all of the newer W, Z data from ATLAS,CMS, LHCb and the Tevatron data [12,13,14,15,16,17,18] already considered in previous MMHT updates [11]. Including these data but not the LHC jet data we obtain α S (M 2 Z ) = 0.1180.…”
