Measurement Performance Assessment: Dynamic Calibration Compared with Static Calibration Method for Roller Tester of Vehicle Brake Force

Abstract: The measurement performance of the roller tester for the vehicle brake force is evaluated by both proposed dynamic calibration and traditional static calibration to find an effective way for ensuring the vehicle safety. Three static parameters, brake force error of a single bench, difference of the left and right benches, and measurement repeatability, are verified to be eligible in the experiments. However, the experimental results of the dynamic calibration prove that the same brake tester fails on the repea… Show more

“…In addition, the common calibration method of the force sensor is performed by loading input forces on the sensor element. Afterwards the output voltage is recorded [ 27 , 28 ]. The common calibration procedure uses a loading device such as a loading plate, weights, and such a base.…”

“…This performance has always a lower value when compared to the effective engine performance generated by an engine [27]. A lot of research studies related to similar issues were process, for example, in literature [5,8,11,12,14,16,17,24,25].…”

“…Test devices are used. The brake tester [1], [5], has done several studies on the brake tester related to the test stages used in vehicle inspections. Considering that the percentage of heavy vehicles left from inspection in our country (with heavy and unsafe defects in inspection) is above 50% on average, this situation shows that heavy vehicles watch a large part of the one-year period between the two periodic examinations in traffic with heavy and unsafe defects.…”
