“…According to the findings, fixed and variable costs of hotels (e.g., cleaning, room, technology, management, and staff) increased due to COVID-19, while the occupancy rate limit (maximum 60%) caused cancellations and loss of revenue. These findings support previous research in hotel operating cost (e.g., Pavlatos, Kostakis & Digkas, 2021;Hameed, Mahomed, & Carvalho, 2021;Milovanovic, 2021). Kaushal & Srivastava (2020) also highlighted the difficulty of managing high fixed costs in response to reduced business volumes of hotels that are sensitive to shocks and instability.…”

For instance, radical changes in the design of open buffets by reducing the food items or avoiding self-service are expected to positively influence customers' feelings of trust (Hameed et al ., 2020). However, it may increase labour costs and lead to dissatisfaction among hotel guests with limited service offerings.…”

“…Since people's primary concern during the pandemic is their health, thus this study includes safety measures variables in the framework. Previous studies which have included safety measures in the theoretical framework in tourism are only restaurants and cruise industries (Bove and Benoit, 2020; Hameed et al , 2021; Pan et al , 2021). However, to the best of researchers' knowledge, this is the first study that incorporates safety measures and trust towards the academic conference organisers and hotel as the place of conference.…”

“…The customer is considering many aspects before they make the decision. One of the considerations is safety measures that have been linked to the customer's willingness to engage in a social gathering (Bove and Benoit, 2020; Hameed et al , 2021; Pan et al , 2021).…”
