Mechanical and microstructural behavior of concrete containing marble and nano silica

Abstract: Purpose The purpose of this study is to perform comprehensive investigation to assess the mechanical properties of nano-modified ternary cement concrete blend. Nano silica (NS) (1%, 2% and 3%) and waste marble dust powder (MD) (5%, 10% and 15%) was incorporated as a fractional substitution of cement in the concrete matrix. Design/methodology/approach In this experimental study, 10 cementitious blends were prepared and tested for compressive strength, flexural strength, splitting tensile strength and static m… Show more

“…The nanofiller effect and pozzolanic reaction reduce the crystal diameters of calcium hydroxide, hence improving the ITZ [35]. NS interacts more distorted and elongated Ca atoms and decreases their concentration in the concrete matrix [36], hence accelerating C3S degradation and cement hydration (Fig. 4).…”

“…The figures demonstrate this. SEM photos show a minute CH crystal particle embedded in the concrete matrix[36]. The NS pozzolanic reaction consumes CH and produces more CSH gel.…”
