Mechanical Performance and Microscopic Mechanism of Coastal Cemented Soil Modified by Iron Tailings and Nano Silica

Abstract: In order to explore the effect of composite materials on the mechanical properties of coastal cement soil, cement soil samples with different iron tailings and nano silica contents were prepared, and unconfined compression and scanning electron microscope tests were carried out. The results show that: (1) The compressive strength of cement soil containing a small amount of iron tailings is improved, and the optimum content of iron tailings is 20%. (2) Nano silica can significantly improve the mechanical proper… Show more

“…This is because nano clay can fill the pores between LS particles and make its internal structure more dense. Secondly, nano clay can promote the further reaction of LS, and on the other hand, it can have pozzolanic reaction with LS [30][31][32][33]. The volcanic ash reaction generates a sheet structure, as shown in Figure 6a.…”

“…Cement is widely used to enhance coastal clay due to its good improvement effect on mechanical properties [4,5], but cement stabilized soil still has some issues include low tensile strength and high brittleness. Therefore, to further improve the engineering performance of coastal cement-clay, adding new solidified materials to cement has become the research direction of today's scholars [6][7][8][9].…”

“…According to statistics, the amount of iron tailings produced in China every year has reached more than 150 million tons, which occupies a lot of land and causes a certain burden on the environment and a waste of resources [14,15].…”
