Mechanical properties and corrosion behaviour of duplex stainless steel weldment using novel electrodes

Abstract: Mechanical and corrosion properties of welded duplex stainless steel (DSS) structures are of paramount consideration in many engineering applications. The current research investigates the mechanical properties and corrosion integrity of duplex stainless-steel weldment in a simulated 3.5% NaCl environment using specially developed novel electrodes without the addition of alloying elements to the flux samples. Two different types of fluxes having basicity indexes of 2.40 and 0.40 were used to coat E1 and E2 ele… Show more

“…[3,4] Consequently, DSS finds increasing applications in various fields like marine engineering, petroleum and natural gas equipment, desalination apparatus, and nuclear power facilities. [5,6] However, achieving the excellent properties of DSS necessitates maintaining a nearly balanced δ and γ content and preventing harmful secondary-phase precipitations (e.g., γ 2 , Cr 2 N, σ, and χ phase). [7][8][9] Welding is a common fabrication process for DSS in various applications.…”

“…The electrode is readily melted in the form of droplets and consumed. The coated flux ensures the arc stability and protects the weld pool from air gases [2][3][4][5]. The MMA process is the cheapest and most popular technique used in many industries [6,7].…”
