Mechanochemical solid acid/base reactions for obtaining biologically active preparations and extracting plant materials

Abstract: Mechanochemically assisted extraction involves the mechanical treatment of powder mixtures of plant materials and convenient reagents in special mill-activators to solubilize the biologically active substances. The reactions of the solid hydroxides, carbonates, and hydrocarbonates of alkali metals are the subject of this paper. During mechanochemical treatment, insoluble biologically active substances are transformed into water-soluble or highly reactive mechanocomposites. The types of reagents used depend on … Show more

“…Only in one study (Liang, Gu, & Ding, 1993), comparative studies were carried out, demonstrating that recrystallization of amorphized cellulose I into cellulose II proceeds much slower in lignin-containing materials than in other materials. (Lomovsky, Lomovskiy, & Orlov, 2017;Orlov, Bychkov, & Lomovsky, 2014).…”

“…Adsorption on lignin causes quercetin destabilization to the highest extent. In the case of carbohydrate components, the ability to decrease the stability of sorbed quercetin during mechanical action decreases in the following sequence: crystalline cellulose > amorphous cellulose > hemicelluloses (Lomovsky, Lomovskiy, & Orlov, ; Orlov, Bychkov, & Lomovsky, ).…”

“…Using pretty similar liquid-liquid extraction, Takemoto et al purified 90 mg of IF from 80 g dried EtOAc extract of Chloranthus japonicus root besides using benzene: EtOAc for chromatography [39]. Regarding MCAE as a new extraction method in which the mechanical power such as milling is combined with the chemicals to increase the yield [84], it was also used by Liu et al to isolate IF from roots and rhizomes of Eleutherococcus senticosus. They showed that the MCAE method was more economical with a shorter extraction time.…”
