“…There have been some reports on surgical methods that can be used to lengthen the skin of the philtrum using an inverted-V excision 8–10 . In our patient, a moderate median cleft lip was able to be surgically corrected using mucocutaneous flaps from the lateral lips to achieve a naturally shaped tubercle and Cupid's bow.…”

“…There have been some reports on surgical methods that can be used to lengthen the skin of the philtrum using an inverted-V excision. [8][9][10] In our patient, a moderate median cleft lip was able to be surgically corrected using mucocutaneous flaps from the lateral lips to achieve a naturally shaped tubercle and Cupid's bow. When considering reconstruction for this type of incomplete median cleft lip, we have to pay attention to partial loss of the median part of the red lip and an anatomically preserved philtrum.…”

“…The rareness of median cleft lip and the wide spectrum of abnormalities result in the absence of a common surgical technique suitable for all patients. Weimer et al 11 described a surgical method using a diamond incision to repair the median cleft lip, while Millard and Williams 12,13 reported a technique excising an inverted V-shape soft tissue in the center of Cupid's bows. In our study, minimal clefts, such as in patients 1 and 2, were easily repaired with rhombus-shaped submucosal excision of the central cleft and with a careful approximation of the orbicularis oris muscle.…”

“…[5][6][7] Lengthening of the midline skin can be achieved with inverted-V incision right above the mucocutaneous white roll. 8 Excessive excision of the skin can lead to hypertrophic scarring, whereas insufficient excision can lead to an unnatural depression on the midline of the philtrum.…”
