Melamine Barbiturate as a Light-Induced Nanostructured Supramolecular Material for a Bioinspired Oxygen and Organic Radical Trap and Stabilization

Abstract: Use of coantioxidant systems is a prospective way to increase the effectiveness of antioxidant species in tissue repair and regeneration. In this paper, we introduce a novel scheme of a reactive oxygen species (ROS) trap and neutralization during self-assembly of supramolecular melamine barbiturate material. The performed reaction chain mimics the biological process of ROS generation in key stages and enables one to obtain stable hydroperoxyl and organic radicals in a melamine barbiturate structure. Melamine b… Show more

“…In 2020, Shilovskikh et al obtained melamine barbiturate with the ability to host and stabilize radicals due to its specific supramolecular structure. 26,27 Most recently, Thakkar et al used this compound to create a composite with carbon nanotubes for efficient and selective organic dye removal. 28 The authors also note that melamine barbiturate is a 3D covalent organic framework.…”

“…BA and cyanuric acids have a similar structural motif to TBA. For these compounds, supramolecular assemblies with M are known [24][25][26][27][28][29][30][31][32]. Despite their similar spatial shape, these acids form different co-crystals with M. M cyanurate forms monoclinic crystals with the space group I2/m, composed of flat two-dimensional layers with a threefold rotation axis [33], while for M-BA the symmetry space group was defined as Ccc2 [29].…”
