“…Numerous studies showed that the Middle to Late Cretaceous (120–80 Ma) magmatic suites in South China, characterized by the extensively coeval mafic dikes (Liu, Mao, Pirajno, Jia, et al, 2018; Liu, Mao, Santosh, Xu, et al, 2018; Yang et al, 2018), formed in an extensional setting (e.g., He & Xu, 2012; Li et al, 2012; Xu et al, 2017; Zhao et al, 2016; Zhou et al, 2006; Zhou & Li, 2000), although the timing of the onset of such extension has remained equivocal. He and Xu (2012) suggested that there were two episodes of magmatism in south‐eastern China, that is, an early stage (140–110 Ma) in a compressional setting and a late stage (110–85 Ma) in an extensional setting.…”
