“…In all, 293 studies were excluded, the main reasons being the inclusion of only singleton pregnancies (37%), not a test accuracy study (27%), and the lack of original data (24%). A total of 21 studies, including 3523 women with twin pregnancies, 18-38 met the inclusion criteria of which 15 (3001 women) provided data for metaanalyses. Sixteen studies (3213 women) provided data on asymptomatic women 18-33 and 5 studies (310 women) on women with symptoms of preterm labor.…”

“…Sixteen studies (3213 women) provided data on asymptomatic women 18-33 and 5 studies (310 women) on women with symptoms of preterm labor. 34-38 One of the included articles 30 was an extended analysis of an initial study 39 from which we extracted data for metaanalyses of CL ≤25 and ≤35 mm at 20-24 weeks of gestation to predict preterm birth <28 weeks of gestation. Six studies 19-21,28,32,37 could not be included in the metaanalyses because the CL cutoff values used, 19-21,32 and outcome measures evaluated 28,37 did not match those of other studies that provided data for metaanalyses.…”

“…Ten studies (67%) were performed in the United States [28, 29, 32, 33, 3539, 41], and one each in Italy [27], Sweden [30], Brazil [31], United Kingdom [34], and France [40]. The sample size ranged from 29 [28] to 169 [36] in asymptomatic women and from 38 [38] to 87 [41] in symptomatic women.…”

“…Cervicovaginal fetal fibronectin was measured using enzyme-linked immunoabsorbent assay quantitative method (nine studies [2830, 33, 3539]), membrane immunoassay qualitative method (three studies [27, 31, 34]), and rapid TLi system qualitative method (one study [41]). Two studies [32, 40] did not report method for measuring fetal fibronectin. All studies considered a cervicovaginal fetal fibronectin concentration of 50 ng/ml or greater as a positive test result.…”
