Metadherin Expression is Associated with Extrathyroidal Extension in Papillary Thyroid Cancer Patients

Abstract: In a subset of PTC patients, MTDH was overexpressed and associated with extrathyroidal extension. Further studies are warranted to explore the utility of MTDH to improve risk stratification of current molecular panels for PTC.

“…This study confirmed that MTDH expression is significantly increased in various tumors than paired adjuvant normal tissues except for thyroid cancer. The downregulated expression of MTDH in thyroid cancer was in contrast to the previous thyroid cancer publication ( Moore et al., 2016 ). We excluded thyroid cancer from our downstream analysis for conscientiousness.…”

“…According to the literature, there is a synergistic effect between TERT and BRAF-V600E mutations [17]. The TERT + BRAF V600E-positive mutations greatly reduced survival time in comparison to the BRAF-V600E-alone group [18,19].…”

“…Previous studies have clearly demonstrated that MTDH participates in breast cancer metastasis to the lung (8,31,32). In addition, MTDH was reported to have an effect in promoting tumor metastasis in a number of human cancer types (33,34). EMT is an important characteristic for the initiation of tumor cell migration and invasion.…”
