Metal Complexes Bearing Sulfur-Containing Ligands as Catalysts in the Reaction of CO2 with Epoxides

Abstract: Coupling of CO2 with epoxides is a green emerging alternative for the synthesis of cyclic organic carbonates (COC) and aliphatic polycarbonates (APC). The scope of this work is to provide a comprehensive overview of metal complexes having sulfur-containing ligands as homogeneous catalytic systems able to efficiently promote this transformation with a concise discussion of the most significant results. The crucial role of sulfur as the hemilabile ligand and its influence on the catalytic activity are highlighte… Show more

“…This situation has engendered the growing attention of the polymer industries and the scientific community to find biodegradable, more sustainable polymeric materials. Parallel to this trend, the use of CO 2 as a carbon feedstock has also gained momentum due to the rising interest in using such an inexpensive, non-toxic molecule as a starting material for the synthesis of polymers [2,3].…”

“…Interestingly, very efficient and selective multinuclear zinc catalysts bearing different auxiliary ligands have recently been reported in the ROCOP of CHO and CO 2 (see Chart 1 ) [ 17 , 18 , 23 , 24 , 25 , 51 ]. However, as far as we are aware, no examples have been reported containing thioalkoxide auxiliary ligands [ 65 ].…”

“…In recent years, our group has intensively studied the use of [OSSO]‐type metal complexes in a series of catalytic transformations [13,20–22,30,32,35] . Indeed, we have reported the synthesis and use of a family of mononuclear [OSSO]‐type Fe(III) complexes as catalysts in the CO 2 /epoxides reactions.…”
