“…In view of the fact that the construction of MOFs depends on two primary interacting components (metal ions/clusters and organic ligands), employing multidentate organic ligands and suitable metal ions via metal-ligand coordination and hydrogen-bond interactions is a major approach for the construction of novel coordination architectures. Among the various organic ligands, imidazole-containing multidentate ligands have been widely employed as excellent candidates for the construction of MOFs in recent decades, examples being 1,2-bis(imidazol-1yl)ethane (1, see Scheme 1; Li et al, 2012;Zhu et al, 2012), 1,3bis(imidazol-1-yl)propane (2; Li et al, 2011a), 1,3-bis(imidazol-1-yl)butane (3; Yang et al, 2014;Li et al, 2011a), ISSN 2053ISSN -2296 # 2020 International Union of Crystallography 1-(imidazol-1-yl)-4-(imidazol-1-ylmethyl)benzene (4; Zhu et al, 2005), 1,4-bis(imidazol-1-ylmethyl)benzene (5; Du et al, 2013;Yang et al, 2014), 1,4-bis(2-methylimidazol-1-ylmethyl)benzene (6; Yang et al, 2014), tris[4-(1H-imidazol-1-yl)phenyl]amine (7; Fu et al, 2014), 1-(imidazol-1-yl)-3,5-bis(imidazol-1ylmethyl)benzene (8; Zhao et al, 2004), 1,3-bis(imidazol-1-yl)-5-(imidazol-1-ylmethyl)benzene (9; Deng et al, 2016), 1,3,5tris[(1H-imidazol-1-yl)methyl]benzene (10; Hu & Zhong, 2018; Luo et al, 2013), 1,3,5-tris(imidazol-1-ylmethyl)-2,4,6-trimethylbenzene (11; Wang et al, 2015), 4,4 0 -bis(imidazol-1ylmethyl)biphenyl (12; Carlucci et al, 2008;Wang et al, 2015), 1,3,5-tris(imidazol-1-yl)benzene (13; Su et al, 2010;Meng et al, 2016) and 1,2,4,5-tetrakis(imidazol-1-ylmethyl)benzene (14; Hua et al, 2010), and complexes with different metal salts have been synthesized and characterized.…”
