“…The value recorded prior to this decrease is reported as the crushing force or crushing strength of the material. Figure 2 shows a comparison of the results obtained for two extrudates of the same batch and, also, the crushing force required to break an extrudate of commercial 4A zeolite [9]. The obtained results clearly show that despite the variability between pellets of the same batch, the extruded ZSM-5 pellets have good mechanical properties comparable to (or even higher than) other commercially available zeolites.…”

“…Novel applications in moving-bed type of reactors require sub-mm particle diameters [8]. The typical shapes of industrial porous materials are pellets, extrudates, laminates, and monoliths [9].…”

“…According to the needs in various applications, thousands of MOFs have been synthesized by now since being reported in the 1990s [1,[24][25][26]. Nowadays, MOFs are available in various structures, such as nanocrystals (NCs) [27], nanospheres [28], nanosheets [29], needles [30], hierarchical monoliths [31], thin films (TFs) [32], membranes [33], and glasses [34][35][36]. Among these structures, MOF-TFs are drawing increasing attention due to their tremendous potential in the development of nanotechnology-enabling applications, such as optics [37], photonics [38], electronics [39], catalytic coatings [40], sensing [41][42][43][44], solar cell [45], battery [46], and supercapacitor [44].…”

“…Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) represent a class of materials with the combination of extraordinary porous, structural, and chemical properties, 1,2 which would become a new emerging nansocale building block for constructing macroscopic assemblies for a broad range of applications. [3][4][5][6] Some techniques, such as self-gelation, 3 have recently been developed to fabricate highly porous MOF aerogels. However, similar to most of the existing porous materials, the resulting MOF aerogels are brittle and have small recoverable deformation before failure.…”

“…Previous analysis suggests that it would be signi cantly challenging to realize superelasticity in three-dimensional (3D) MOF assembles. [3][4][5][6] The capability of sustaining structural integrity during considerable deformations for 3D MOF assemblies is not only crucial for fabricating new categories of exible energy devices, such as electrocatalysis, 1 batteries, 9,10 and supercapacitors, 2,11 but also critical for future design of macroscopic MOF-based biological tissues resistant for mechanical damping. 12 It is therefore highly desirable to explore new strategies to address this challenging yet very important problem.…”
