Background: Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) is one of the most common urological malignancies. Case Report: A 62-year-old male patient was admitted to our clinic due to painful swelling on the right side of his face. On the panoramic radiograph, a well defined, unilocular, approximately 1.9×1.5 cm sized radiolucent area was observed. It was decided to enucleate the lesion, which was thought to be 'radicular cyst' radiographically. While performing incision and flap operations, bleeding continued in an abnormal amount. Surgical material was diagnosed a RCC metastasis. Conclusion: The possibility of a metastatic tumor in cases with excessive bleeding during surgery should be kept in mind.

BackgroundRenal cell carcinoma is the third most common tumor that metastasizes to the head and neck, after breast and lung carcinomas. Tongue metastasis as an initial presentation of renal cell carcinoma is extremely rare, and very few cases have been reported. The prognosis is poor. We present a rare case of metastatic renal cell carcinoma that initially presented as a tongue lesion.Case presentationWe report the case of a 55-year-old white man who presented with a large exophytic lesion on his tongue. A biopsy was taken, and pathologic examination showed a poorly differentiated carcinoma including a sarcomatoid component. Subtotal glossectomy with neck dissection were planned, but a positron emission tomographic-computed tomography scan showed a left kidney mass. Immunohistochemical evaluation of the tongue lesion was performed, and it was compatible with metastasis from primary renal cell carcinoma. The biopsy of the renal lesion showed a high-grade unclassified renal cell carcinoma. Although our patient underwent systemic therapy, he died of hemorrhagic complications 3 months after the initiation of therapy.ConclusionTongue lesions require a complete assessment to distinguish a metastasis from a primary cancer in order to give the appropriate treatment.

Clear-cell variant of oral squamous cell carcinoma is an extremely rare entity in the maxillofacial region. We report a case of 42-year-old female who presented with a soft-tissue growth with erythematous and nonscrapable irregular white patches on the left alveolar mucosa for the past 3 months. Histopathologic examination showed lobules and sheets of clear cells with features of malignancy extending from the surface epithelium. Periodic acid–Schiff and mucicarmine stains showed a negative reaction. Immunohistochemical study using antibody for pan-cytokeratin revealed intense positivity and negative for the markers such as S-100, smooth muscle actin and CD 117.
