Metasurfaces for Far-Field Radiation Pattern Correction of Antennas under Dielectric Seamed-Radomes

Abstract: A high-index dielectric radome seam is camouflaged with respect to a low-index dielectric radome panel by tuning the seam with carefully engineered metasurfaces. A transmission-line approach is used to model the metasurface-tuned seam and analytically retrieve the corresponding surface impedance, from which the unit-cell design is then tailored. Full-wave simulations and microwave antenna measurements performed on a proof-of-concept prototype validate the undesired scattering suppression effect in the case of … Show more

“…Due to their unique electromagnetic features, they are able to show excellent capabilities in tailoring amplitude, phase and polarization of electromagnetic waves. In view of these intrinsic characteristics, numerous applications of metasurfaces have been reported, such as perfect lens, [ 7 ] anomalous reflection, [ 8,9 ] camouflaging, [ 10,11 ] vortex beam, [ 12,13 ] and hologram. [ 13–25 ] Compared to traditional hologram technologies, metasurface‐based holograms present advantages of high spatial resolution, low noise, high precision, to name a few.…”
