Method for Evaluating Eco-Driving Behaviors Based on Vehicle Specific Power Distributions

Abstract: Eco-driving is an effective way to reduce vehicle fuel consumption and exhaust emissions. Numerous studies have been conducted on eco-driving, however, there is still a lack of quick and accurate methods for evaluating eco-driving behaviors. This paper proposes a novel method to evaluate eco-driving behaviors based on vehicle specific power (VSP) distributions. First, the baseline speed-specific VSP distributions were derived based on second-by-second vehicle activity data of driving trajectories from 159 driv… Show more

“…The fuel rate utilized in this work is China IV. The fuel consumption showed an almost linear increase when VSP was positive, and tend to be approximately constant for negative bins [47] (as shown in Figure 2). The fuel factor (mL/km) is the mass of pollutants emitted by a motor vehicle per unit of distance, which is used to quantify the fuel consumption intensity of vehicles.…”

“…In order to objectively evaluate the level of eco-driving, objective evaluation indicators are used to construct an eco-driving evaluation model. Zang et al [ 86 ] evaluated eco-driving behavior based on vehicle specific power (VSP), and the differences between individual drivers’ VSP distributions and the baseline distributions were used to assess eco-driving behaviors. Zavalko et al [ 87 ] proposed using the energy method to evaluate drivers’ economic driving level, and the energy consumed during braking could be used as an indicator to measure the eco-driving level.…”
