Methods of accelerating orthodontic tooth movement: A review of contemporary literature

Abstract: Technological progress and the introduction of modern therapeutic methods are constantly changing contemporary orthodontics. More and more orthodontic patients are working adults, who expect satisfactory therapeutic effects as soon as possible, increasing the importance of methods accelerating tooth movement. The aim of this study was to review the current literature regarding methods of accelerating tooth movement and reducing the duration of the active phase of therapy. The literature was collected from the … Show more

“…Vitamin D has a key role in bone turnover as it has been shown to increase osteoclast and osteoblast proliferation and activity (Kale et al, 2004). Accordingly, vitamin D deficiencies may cause decelerated tooth movement (Kacprzak and Strzecki, 2018) which is of particular relevance to orthodontic treatment and has a bearing on treatment length.…”

“…From the clinician’s perspective, the desired factor is the acceleration of teeth movement without side effects, such as root resorption. Corticotomy is a more widely described method for this purpose, but it is an invasive procedure [ 8 , 9 ]. The use of lasers in this field in the form of biomodulation is known, making it possible to accelerate the movement of teeth and shorten the treatment time [ 10 , 11 ].…”
