Methods of posture analysis for computer workers

Abstract: Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) have been identified as a predisposing factor for lesser productivity and are considered to be a major occupational health problem contributing significantly to absenteeism, disability and loss of productivity. Computer users may develop musculoskeletal disorders due to the forces applied, muscle use, posture and wrist velocity and acceleration exposures during computer use. Work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WMSDs) in computer users cause substantial worker discomfort, di… Show more

“…Sedentary behavior (SB) has been identified as a primary reason for WMSDs (Falck et al, 2018). Thus, measuring physical activity and SB in the workplace has been considered in several studies (Maheronnaghsh, Santos, and Vaz, 2018;Neuhaus et al, 2014;Quante et al, 2015).…”

“…Various methods were utilized to measure SB/PA in previous studies; questionnaire-based methods have been most frequently used until recently. Although they are lowcost method, easy to use with low participant burden but to address some of the limitations in self-report, researchers tend to use technological innovations in objective monitoring of SB, such as accelerometers and posture sensors (Healy et al 2011;Maheronnaghsh, Santos, and Vaz 2018).…”
