Abstract:Background: Diabetic retinopathy is the most common retinal vascular disease, affecting the retina’s blood vessels and causing chronic inflammation, oxidative stress, and, ultimately, vision loss. Diabetes-induced elevated glucose levels increase glycolysis, the main methylglyoxal (MGO) formation pathway.
