Methylobacterium iners sp. nov. and Methylobacterium aerolatum sp. nov., isolated from air samples in Korea

Abstract: Two bacterial strains isolated from air samples, 5317S-33 T and 5413S-11 T , were characterized by determining their phenotypic characteristics, cellular fatty acid profiles and phylogenetic positions based on 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis. 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis showed that these isolates belonged to the genus Methylobacterium. Strain 5317S-33 T was most closely related to Methylobacterium adhaesivum AR27 T (97.9 % sequence similarity). Strain

“…Both strains had C 18:1 v7c as the major fatty acid. These were consistent with the major fatty acids of M. T (Kang et al, 2007;Madhaiyan et al, 2007a;Kato et al, 2008;Weon et al, 2008;Madhaiyan et al, 2009;Madhaiyan et al, 2012;Knief et al, 2012); however, strains BL36…”

“…They have also been found in association with humans (2), and some members of this genus have increasingly been reported to be a cause of opportunistic infections in immunocompromised patients (22). The genus Methylobacterium currently comprises 28 described species (28,60). Several new species have been described during the last few years, including species from environments that have been analyzed for several decades, such as the plant phyllosphere (23,27,28,38,58).…”
