MHD transient flows and heat transfer of dusty fluid in a channel with variable physical properties and Navier slip condition

Abstract: a b s t r a c tIn this paper, we study the unsteady flow and heat transfer of a dusty fluid between two parallel plates with variable viscosity and electric conductivity. The fluid is driven by a constant pressure gradient and an external uniform magnetic field is applied perpendicular to the plates with a Navier slip boundary condition. The governing nonlinear partial differential equations are solved numerically using a semi-implicit finite difference scheme. The effect of the wall slip parameter, viscosity … Show more

“…Cookey et al (2010) contributed to MHD oscillatory Couette flow of a radiating viscous fluid in a porous medium with periodic wall temperature. Makinde & Chinyoka (2010a) discussed MHD transient flows and heat transfer of dusty fluid in a channel with variable physical properties and Navier slip condition. A numerical investigation of transient heat transfer to hydromagnetic channel flow with radiative heat and convective cooling has been carried out by Makinde & Chinyoka (2010b).…”

“…Attia [10] presented a numerical solution for unsteady MHD Couette flow and heat transfer of dusty fluid with variable physical properties. Makinde and Chinyoka [11] studied the combined effects of Navier slip and magnetic field on transient flows of conducting dusty fluid and heat transfer in a channel with variable physical properties. Recently, Makinde and Onyejekwe [12] reported a numerical solution for a steady state MHD generalized Couette flow and heat transfer with temperature dependent power law viscosity and electrical conductivity.…”

“…When > 0 the upper plate at y = a begins to move in its own plane with a uniform velocity U and the lower plate at y = 0 remains fixed. The magnetic Reynolds number is assumed to be small so that Under these assumptions, the system of equations which models the problem under consideration in one dimension, is given by [3,[10][11][12]]…”

“…Makinde and Chinyoka [33] studied MHD transient flows and heat transfer of dusty fluid in a channel with variable physical properties and Navier slip condition. The effects of time dependent surface temperature on the flow and heat transfer of a viscous, incompressible and electrically conducting dusty fluid has been studied by Nandkeolyar et al [34], by assuming fluid particles are heat absorbing and the temperature at the surface of the sheet is a result of convective heating.…”
