Micromirror-based real image laser automotive head-up display

Abstract: This paper reports a micromirror-based real image laser automotive head-up display (HUD), which overcomes the limitations of the previous designs by: (1) implementing an advanced display approach which is able to display sharp corners while the previous designs can only display curved lines such as to improve the display fidelity and (2) Optimizing the optical configuration to significantly reduce the HUD module size. The optical design in the HUD is simulated to choose the off-the-shelf concave lens. The vibr… Show more

“…LiDAR has the advantages of long detection distance, good coherence, and high spatiotemporal resolution, which makes it widely used in fields such as robotics, autonomous driving, security, and environmental monitoring [ 1 ]. The micro mirror, as a micro-opto-electromechanical system (MOEMS) device, has been widely used in many applications, such as medical, automotive, consumer, and military electronics [ 2 , 3 , 4 ], etc. Meanwhile, there is a growing demand for small LiDAR with broad research prospects [ 5 ].…”

“…Laser-based projection displays are being developed and demonstrated by several companies such as Mitsubishi, Microvision, Alcatel-Lucent, and Explay [2]. In addition to consumer electronics, laser is also widely used for automotive applications, such as lidar and head-up displays [3,4]. For display and imaging applications, the image quality is critical, especially for high information content.…”
