MicroRNAs and Sepsis-Induced Cardiac Dysfunction: A Systematic Review

Abstract: Sepsis is a severe condition characterized by systemic inflammation. One of the most involved organs in sepsis is the heart. On the other hand, heart failure and dysfunction are some of the most leading causes of death in septic patients. miRNAs are short single-strand non-coding ribonucleic acids involved in the regulation of gene expression on a post-transcriptional phase, which means they are a part of the epigenetic process. Recently, researchers have found that miRNA expression in tissues and blood differ… Show more

“…miR-144-3p, located in human chromosome 17q11.2 [ 29 ], has been reported to be associated with human myocardial infarction [ 30 ]. Multiple studies have shown that miRNAs play a role in sepsis and sepsis-induced heart damage [ 31 ]. In this study, we confirmed that CASC15 directly targeted miR-144-3p and negatively regulated the expression level of miR-144-3p.…”

“…* p < .05 4 | DISCUSSION miRNAs are implicated in the pathogenesis of sepsis-related cardiac, lung, liver and kidney disorders. 21,22,[31][32][33] This study aimed to ascertain a novel target for the treatment of sepsisinduced ALI. This study revealed that miR-942-5p limited TRIM37 expression and ameliorated LPS-induced ALI in vitro and inflammatory response in A549 cells.…”
