Microwave Imaging Approach for Breast Cancer Detection Using a Tapered Slot Antenna Loaded with Parasitic Components

Abstract: In this paper, a wideband antenna is proposed for ultra-wideband microwave imaging applications. The antenna is comprised of a tapered slot ground, a rectangular slotted patch and four star-shaped parasitic components. The added slotted patch is shown to be effective in improving the bandwidth and gain. The proposed antenna system provides a realized gain of 6 dBi, an efficiency of around 80% on the radiation bandwidth, and a wide impedance bandwidth (S11 < −10 dB) of 6.3 GHz (from 3.8 to 10.1 GHz). This su… Show more

“…Thus, CNC is dedicated to large-scale production since it reduces development time and man-hours, which consequently reduces production cost. In addition, engraving has been successfully used to develop mm-scale metasurfaces [38][39][40]. Therefore, the utilization of CNC engraving to develop CSRRs seems like quite an interesting approach.…”

“…The literature [11][12][13][14][15][16][17][18] has presented several modified proposals for ultra-wideband technologies. A small UWB antenna with an impedance bandwidth of 10.354 GHz and a pick gain of 4.7 dBi for a variety of applications was reported by the researchers in [11].…”

“…Its overall dimensions are 27 mm by 25 mm. In order for the Rogers 5880 substrate to function properly with the frequency range of UWB applications, a microwave tapered slot antenna for cancer detection is also made [12]. The frequency band response of this antenna, which has a size of 29 ×26.6 mm 2 and a bandwidth ratio of 2.7, is 3.7 to 10 GHz.…”
