Bioorganic asymmetric reduction of carbonyl compounds is one of the most important fundamental and practical reactions for producing chiral alcohols. The stereoselective bioreduction of prochiral ketones of benzofuran derivatives in the presence of yeast‐like fungus Aureobasidium pullulans contained in the antifungal Boni Protect agent was studied. Biotransformations were carried out under moderate conditions in an aqueous and two‐phase system and without multiplication of the bioreagent. Despite similar chemical structure, each of the used ketone has been reduced with varying efficiency and selectivity. One of the reasons for these results is the presence of a whole set of oxidoreductases in A. pullulans cells that are sensitive to the smallest changes in the structure of prochiral substrate. The unsymmetrical methyl ketones were biotransformed with the highest selectivity. Aureobasidium pullulans microorganism is less effective in the reduction of unsymmetrical halomethyl ketones. The presence of a heteroatom in the alkyl group significantly decreases the selectivity of the process. Finally, as a result of the preferred hydride ion transfer from the dihydropyridine ring of the cofactor to the carbonyl double bond on the re side, secondary alcohols of the S and R configuration were obtained with moderate to high enantioselectivity (55‐99%).

Background Blood coagulation is a rapid and efficient process that produces clot formation which requires regulation. A derangement of blood coagulation is a feature of many disease conditions. This study investigated the in vitro effects of Crassocephalum crepidioides Benth S. Moore leaf methanol (crude) extract and its partitioned solvent fractions on blood coagulation of Healthy human volunteers. Methods The secondary metabolites from dried and ground C. crepidioides leaves were extracted with 70% methanol, and the concentrated crude extract was subsequently subjected to solvent partitioning with Hexane, Ethyl acetate, and Butanol. Varying concentrations (5–20 mg/mL) of the extract and fractions were tested in vitro on blood coagulation profile; clotting time (CT), prothrombin time (PT), and activated partial thromboplastin time (aPTT) of apparently healthy human volunteers, while phytochemical characterization of the Hexane fraction was done by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). Results C. crepidioides leaf methanol extract and fractions significantly ( P <0.05) prolonged the clotting time, prothrombin and activated partial thromboplastin times in the blood obtained from the volunteers. The highest prolongation effect was recorded with the Hexane fraction at concentration of 10mg/mL. GC-MS analysis of the Hexane fraction indicated the presence of phytochemicals such as unsaturated fatty acids and esters, phenolic compounds, flavonoids, and coumarin-related compounds known to exhibit antiaggregant, antiplatelet and antimicrobial activities. Conclusion These results showed that C. crepidioides possesses bioactive components with anticoagulant properties which may be exploited in the treatment of blood coagulation disorders.

An environmentally friendly method is presented here for the synthesis of various benzofuran derivatives using CuI catalyst. In this line, a one‐pot, 3‐component reaction of alkynes, different aldehydes, and amines is employed in choline chloride‐ethylene glycol deep eutectic solvent as an available, cheap, and green media. The employed method includes easy workup and good yields. In this work, 12 different benzofuran derivatives have been prepared in 7 h at 80°C.
