Mini Review: The Forensic Value of Heat Shock Proteins

Abstract: Forensic pathologists are routinely confronted with unclear causes of death or related findings. In some instances, difficulties arise in relation to questions posed by criminal investigators or prosecutors. Such scenarios may include questions about wound vitality or cause of death where typical or landmark findings are difficult to ascertain. In addition to the usual examinations required to clarify unclear causes of death or address specific questions, immunohistochemistry and genetic analyses have become i… Show more

“…Additionally, HSP60 regulates mitochondrial permeability transition, establishing a cytoprotective network that counters CypD-associated cell death in tumor contexts, where CypD is a component of the mitochondrial permeability transition pore. Furthermore, HSP60 plays a crucial role in protein import and quality control machinery[ 68 , 69 ].…”

“…It is an essential work to determine wound vitality and wound age in forensic autopsy cases. To achieve the purpose, advanced biological techniques are applied to forensic pathology ( 4 8 ). In forensic medicine, the compression mark on the neck is one of the most important criteria for determining whether the neck has been affected by the contractile force.…”

“…Prangenberg et al ( 4 ) showed heat shock protein was widely applied to forensic pathology such as fire-related death, hypothermia, cardiac death, drowning, excited delirium, trauma and SIDS. Ubiquitin is known as a heat-shock protein induced by several stress conditions ( 18 ).…”

“…The HSP expression under heat stress has already been demonstrated in myocardium, lung and kidney tissues and HSPs can be visualized with immunohistochemical staining 22 24 . Not only fire deaths but also cardiac deaths, mechanical asphyxiation and acute lung injury, HSPs were detected 24 . In the present study, we investigated the expression of HSPs under hypoxic conditions of blood flow stasis.…”
