Miniature and Higher-Order Mode Ferrite Mimo Ring Patch Antenna for Mobile Communication System

Abstract: Abstract-Miniaturized ferrite ring patch antennas (RPAs) were designed and fabricated for multiple-input multiple-out (MIMO) applications. Design parameters of higher-order mode ferrite RPAs, 1-RPA and 2-RPA, were optimized, and antenna performance of the ferrite 1-RPA was evaluated. The Z-type hexaferrite and 2%-weight borosilicate glass composite was used for the ferrite antenna disk. The measured permeability (µ r ) and permittivity (ε r ) of the hexaferrite were 2.59 and 5.7, respectively, at 2.5 GHz. Thre… Show more

“…The far-field radiation pattern generated by each antenna was orthogonal each other. Simulation results of 2-RPA and measurement results of manufactured 1-RPA were presented in [9]. This paper presents measurement results of the manufactured ferrite 1-CPA.…”

“…Capacity is calculated according to (10) for three different cases and is color-coded the same as for BER. For example, to achieve a capacity of 3 bits/s/Hz, the HEMA requires 1.4 dB higher SNR than for the ideal case (compare red and green curves).…”

“…These two feed probes were separated over the azimuth plane so that the generated far-field radiation patterns were approximately orthogonal. A similar configuration, a stacked two-ring patch antenna (2-RPA), was presented in [10]. Here, a ferrite substrate was used to reduce the size of the antenna.…”

“…The multiple antennas closely spaced will cause unwanted mutual coupling and low antenna efficiency, thus the performance of the MIMO system will be deteriorated. To reduce the mutual coupling, various methods had been developed by applying an inductor coil [2], orthogonal radiations [3], an inverted-Y shaped stub on the ground plane [4], and notches on the ground plane as resonators [5]. In [6], two different kinds of antenna are used to realize dual-band, but they were not operating in the same frequency band.…”
