Minimal water-jet hydrodissection

Abstract: This paper presents a hydrodissection technique performed with high-speed pulse injection of only 0.1 cc liquid and assess its efficacy, safety, and the level of reduction in posterior capsule rupture complications in phacoemulsification cataract surgery. The kinetic energy of moving objects is directly proportional to the mass and to the square of its velocity. The high energy obtained by high-speed pulse injection of a small amount of liquid ensures highly effective dissection. Since the amount of liquid is … Show more

“…[ 28 ] The hydro cannula is passed below the anterior lens capsule and advanced 1 mm behind the rhexis margin in the subcapsular plane. [ 29 ] The fluid wave is advanced gradually after lifting the anterior capsular margin. As the fluid wave passes behind the lens, it separates the cortex from the capsule.…”

“…Multi or single site techniques are commonly performed for hydrodissection. Single site hydrodissection is advocated to prevent blow out of the posterior capsule with luxation of nucleus in the vitreous cavity 7, 10, 11. Multiquadrant hydrodissection has been shown to make easier the removal of nucleus and cortex during phacoemulsification procedure 4 …”

“…Inexperienced surgeons may perform hydrodissection followed phacoemulsi cation step by step, but usually need repeat hydrodissection to ensure cleavage complete especially in trainees, that remains risk as well as reduces e ciency in traditional method 5,6 . Hence, we modi ed hydrodissection method, to compare and analysis whether it's safety and e ciency during cataract surgery.…”
