Minimalistic Approach to Coreference Resolution in Lithuanian Medical Records

Abstract: Coreference resolution is a challenging part of natural language processing (NLP) with applications in machine translation, semantic search and other information retrieval, and decision support systems. Coreference resolution requires linguistic preprocessing and rich language resources for automatically identifying and resolving such expressions. Many rarer and under-resourced languages (such as Lithuanian) lack the required language resources and tools. We present a method for coreference resolution in Lithu… Show more

“…Another part of investigations contains deriving related tasks such as shifting open IE triples-inference task to multilingual level and stating an analogy of multiple premises entailment task also for open IE-triples inference nature, i.e., dealing with premises in a form of sets of open IE-triples instead of single triples. There is also an issue to apply principles currently presented in [32].…”

“…As for Baltic languages,Žitkus et al [7] present a rule-based method for anaphora resolution in Lithuanian in the context of processing e-health records. In the same paper they provide a thorough overview of coreference/anaphora resolution in Balto-Slavic languages.…”

“…Natural language processing (NLP) is a field of research that deals with machine learning (ML) algorithms applied to human natural languages [5]. NLP applications aim to automatically process written and spoken human languages including sentiment analysis [6,7], sarcasm detection [8], machine translation [9], speech recognition [10], automated dialogue systems [11], urban studies [12,13], topic classification [14], similarity detection [15], text summarization [16], intent detection [17], news and social media analysis [18,19], part-of-speech (POS) tagging [20], authorship attribution [21,22], fake tweet detection [23], coreference resolution [24] and others [14,[25][26][27]. Recently, NLP techniques have also been employed to study the sentiments and attitudes of social media users regarding the COVID-19 pandemic [28,29].…”
